What's new:
The Cadillac
Escalade gets a total redesign for 2021, gaining size, new tech, and an
independent rear suspension.
What's hot:
·
Gigantic 38” of total OLED display space is catnip for screen junkies.
·
Between the Magnetic Ride Control and the adaptive Air Ride suspension,
handling is exquisitely well-sorted and confident despite colossal size.
·
Expansive and ultra-comfortable interior, with improved room for both
passengers and cargo
·
The Cadillac Escalade has long been go-to for
over-the-top luxury in the fullsize SUV segment—and this year, the gargantuan
scale and superlative opulence that the Escalade is known for both go even
bigger. With 2021’s total redesign, the Escalade dials up the very things that
have kept it at the forefront of luxury mega-haulers for the last two decades
and change—its tranquil ride becomes even more cloudlike, it pampers its
occupants with escalating amenities, and it outdoes itself with next-generation
infotainment and driver-assist tech. And somehow, yes, it manages to be even
more huge. This new Escalade makes it clear that you’re going
to be spoiled as never before, and as always, it aims to outdo itself. But has
it reached a tipping point of sorts, spilling over into a realm of just too
much of a good thing? I spent a few days in one, pondering this very question.
What's not:
·
Poor outward visibility caused by massive hood and substantial forward
blindspots.
·
The camera is the tool you need the most, yet it’s buried in the menu.
·
The tacky and argumentative electronic shift joystick does not fit with the
cabin’s grandeur.
