About This
Vehicle
Model strengths:
Extreme levels of comfort and
luxury; all-wheel drive; plenty of ground clearance; incredible performance
Model changes:
The Bentley Bentayga gets a
couple of new trim levels for 2019, moving both downmarket and upmarket at the
same time. The new V8 version of the Bentayga offers a more entry-level model,
about $30,000 lower than last years' 6.0L W-12. The top of the line Speed model
on the other hand, adds more horsepower, a higher top speed and a more dynamic
driving experience.
Model value:
With the Bentayga, a new level
of luxury enters this SUV game, and the Bentayga will be about as exclusive as
SUVs come. With a base price well in excess of $150,000, buyers will rarely see
another one on the road, and owners can rest assured their Bentayga offers nothing
but the best in every way.
Model overview:
At the heart of the 2019
Bentley Bentayga is its engine. No matter which engine is equipped, the
Bentayga is incredibly powerful. New for this year is a 4.0L V8 twin turbo
making 542 hp, but the bigger 6.0L W12 engine, fed by two turbochargers, is
still available and makes a full 600 hp. At the top of the line sits the Speed
version of the Bentayga, utilizing the same W-12 engine, but with a little bit
of extra tuning to bring the total horsepower number up to 626. All three
engine choices are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, sending power to
all four wheels. No matter which engine, the Bentayga should go from 0-60 in
under 5 seconds.
Picking out just the right way to equip one's new
Bentayga is an adventure of its own. So many options and colors are available
for the big SUV that it's easy to get lost within the features list. For
example. the Bentayga's sound system includes 20 speakers and a 1950-watt
amplifier, and not surprisingly, Bentley claims it's the most powerful stereo
ever sold in an SUV. The Bentayga also includes a rear-seat entertainment
system with two 10.2-inch screens set into the headrests that are removable and
can be used as tablets. There's also a touchscreen remote located between the
rear seats to control that infotainment system.
Bentaygas are available in four distinct
specifications, Touring, City, All-Terrain and Mulliner. All-Terrain Bentaygas
come with a couple of unique driving modes that include a Mud and Trail mode
and a Sand mode. Another nice little feature on the All-Terrain is a sump
camera to assist in tricky off roading, a compass and altimeter also come
standard on the All-Terrain.
The City specification includes Park Assist functions
and a top-view camera to make parking the large SUV easier. The City specification
also can detect traffic signs and display speed limits and other road
information in the dashboard. The City specification also has additional
features to help avoid fender benders in urban areas. The Bentayga has an
audible pedestrian warning system that will beep if someone steps into the
vehicle's path, applying emergency braking if necessary.
The Mulliner trim adds unique 22-inch wheels, Ombre
Burr Walnut fade veneer interior, LED welcome lights, a console drink cooler
and a Naim audio system. Additional options include ambient lighting, a rear
entertainment system, front and rear-seat ventilation with massaging function,
a two-tone premium leather-trimmed steering wheel, and rear foldable tables.
The Touring specification adds adaptive cruise control and lane assist functions to the Bentayga. The adaptive cruise control can even be used in heavy traffic, allowing the Bentayga to come to a complete stop and then accelerate again as traffic allows. A night vision system can also warn drivers of potential hazards that might lurk beyond the view of the headlights
