About This Vehicle

Model strengths:

Incredibly fast; exotic styling; Ferrari nameplate; all-wheel drive; hybrid drivetrain

Model changes:

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is a brand-new car from the Italian marque and it's the most expensive and powerful production Ferrari road car currently on sale. While its dimensions and engine layout are more similar to the mid-engined F8 Tributo than they are to the bigger, front-engined cars in Ferrari's lineup such as the 812 Superfast and the Portofino, the benefits of all-wheel drive and a hybrid drivetrain setup let drivers dial up the performance while improving fuel economy to the hard-core mid-engined layout. It's a setup that's fairly unique, as the only other road legal Ferrari to ever feature a hybrid drivetrain was the LaFerrari hypercar. Now though, it's looking increasingly likely that Ferrari will continue to build hybrids in the coming decades.

Model value:

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale, like just about every vehicle in the Ferrari lineup is extremely expensive. In this case, the base price is around $600,000, putting it in contention with some of the most exotic and fast machinery sold from brands such as McLaren, Lamborghini and Koenigsegg. What the SF90 has going for it is a unique, plug in hybrid drivetrain, all-wheel drive and a chassis tuned by the absolute best in the business over at Ferrari. Add to that the speed that comes from having nearly a thousand horsepower and it becomes one of the most technologically impressive vehicles ever sold in the United States.

Model overview:

At the heart of the SF90 is a 4.0L V8 engine aided by two turbochargers and three electric motors. The combination is good for a staggering 986 horsepower. Of those electric motors, two are positioned at the front wheels, while the third one sits between the engine and the transmission, which is an 8-speed dual-clutch unit. There are many benefits to such a setup, the instant surge of the electric motors allows the SF90 to make excellent low down torque, while the compact motors at the front of the car give it all-wheel traction without the packaging constraints that come with more conventional all-wheel drive systems. Ferrari claims a 0-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds when all is said and done.

But the SF90 Stradale isn't just a hybrid, it's a plug-in hybrid, meaning that the car can operate in electric only mode for up to 16 miles before the conventional engine has to kick in and recharge the battery. During this time, the Ferrari is motivated exclusively via its front wheels which is a first for any Ferrari ever built. And while mileage is ultimately still in the realm of most Ferrari vehicles, owners who use the SF90 mainly on short drives will derive a sizable fuel savings benefit from that hybrid drivetrain.

Inside, the SF90 has a cockpit that's every bit as space-age as the rest of the car. It's somewhat minimalistic, but still features plenty of tech and convenience features. These include a large digital instrument cluster for the driver, Apple CarPlay, power adjustable seats, automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a powered tilt and telescoping steering column, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

Outside, the car comes standard with 20-inch wheels, heated, power-folding rear view mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, rain-sensing wipers, a rearview camera and rear mounted backup sensors.

Of course, like most cars costing more than a couple of hundred thousand dollars, there are a wealth of customization options including a ton of colors and two tone options, carbon fiber highlights throughout the engine bay and exterior, carbon fiber wheels, titanium or ceramic coated exhaust pipes, four different styles of optional seats beyond the standard ones, a digital rearview mirror and plenty of colored leather options.
