About This Vehicle
Model strengths:
Incredible levels of luxury; beautifully appointed interior; very spacious back seat; the latest tech features combined with old-school opulence; the best ride quality in the industry; available long-wheelbase versionModel changes:
The Rolls-Royce Phantom carries over into 2020 with minimal changes. The flagship sedan receives a new optional polished metal fuel filler cap, a new bespoke dash clock, and the option of personalized door panel embroidery.Model value:
Rolls-Royce cars are notoriously opulent, and the Phantom represents the flagship of the whole lineup. The Phantom offers more luxury and space than anything on the market, while also featuring some of the best build quality in the industry. It offers features other car manufacturers can only dream of, such as having over 1300 LED lights embedded in the headliner to simulate a starry night sky, all while still having all of the latest technology anyone could want in a vehicle. The Phantom has no true rival. Other similar industry examples are the Bentley Mulsanne and Mercedes-Maybach S650.Model overview:
The heart of the Phantom is a V12 engine displacing 6.8 liters powering the rear wheels. The engine limits torque in the first couple of gears to prevent wheelspin, as peeling out would simply be undignified. However, with 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque available, the Phantom is still very quick in a straight line. While the Phantom is capable of cornering surprisingly well, its suspension concentrates more on what Rolls-Royce have dubbed their "Magic Carpet" ride. The Phantom has sensors that can detect pavement imperfections before the car reaches them, with the suspension pre-loading or loosening up to the perfect degree to allow a minimal amount of vibrations to make it to the cabin. Sound of course is also a form of vibration and Rolls-Royce have tried nearly every trick in the book to make sure that the new Phantom is extremely quiet and serene for its occupants. Beyond the hundreds of pounds of sound deadening, the Phantom also features triple layered glass and tires specifically designed for cars that have a layer of foam in them to further isolate passengers from road harshness and sound.
One of the great joys of buying a Rolls-Royce is the ability to specify the vehicle however the owner wants. Rolls-Royce offers a level of customization that goes far beyond other manufacturers. Buyers can commission their phantom in a huge variety of colors in single or two tone styles, along with a bevy of wheel options, all of which feature center caps that stay facing the right way even while the wheels are spinning.
Standard features of the Phantom include four-zone automatic climate control, soft-closing doors, a 360-degree camera, power adjustable and heated front seats with massage and a power trunk lid. Standard convenience features are front and rear parking sensors, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, a head-up display, high-beam assistance, and cruise control. The center display is a 10.25-inch unit with standard navigation, satellite radio, and Bluetooth. Also standard are 21-inch wheels and LED headlights.
Rolls-Royce's signature Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament can be ordered in solid silver, gold plated, or carbon fiber with optional LED illumination and disappears into the grille at the touch of a button.
The interior options are where things can get really wild. Rolls-Royce offers three different configurations for the rear seats, one of which is a two-seater setup with a whiskey decanter built into the center armrest. A motorized, elevating footrest can be optioned to pop out of the floor in the rear seats. Rolls-Royce also offers no fewer than nine different textured veneers for the dashboard including a Metropolitan Skyline option that blends patterned aluminum over high quality wood to create an abstract likeness of a city skyline in the dashboard.
Other interior options include rear seat picnic tables that open to reveal 12-inch touchscreens, plush lambswool floormats, rear seat massage, front and rear ventilated seats, the shooting star headliner, rear compartment curtains, and a bespoke 1300-watt 16 speaker sound system. The Phantom even comes with an optional umbrella, with a storage slot built right into the vehicle. Driver assistance options are active cruise control and night vision.
The extended wheelbase Phantom is 8.6 inches longer, resulting in additional rear seat legroom. It employs the same powertrain unit fitted to the standard wheelbase model. The very special optional extra for the EWB Phantom is the rear privacy suite. When ordered, a privacy wall separates the rear compartment from the front entirely.
